In September 2023, we went on a familiarization trip, or 'FAM trip,' to Mexico, where we explored a remarkable collection of 10 luxurious resorts. Our mission? To gain an intimate understanding of these resorts, to learn their unique intricacies, and to grasp the essence of what makes each one special.


As travel advisors, it is our duty not only to know these destinations but also to have firsthand knowledge of the exquisite accommodations and experiences they offer. Among the resorts we visited on our journey, Secrets Moxche Playa del Carmen truly stood out. Through our travels, we've found that Secrets Resorts always offer exceptional accommodations, and this property was no exception. While there, we devoted an entire afternoon to getting to know the resort. Atmosphere



Secrets Moxche knows how to make a grand impression: upon arrival, we were greeted with refreshing cold towels and crisp champagne, setting the stage for the indulgent experience ahead. Our first steps into their open-air lobby were a breathtaking introduction to Secrets Moxche's aesthetic – expansive, visually stunning, and seemingly otherworldly in its scope. With panoramic views of the lavish resort grounds, the lobby instantly transported us into its world of ultimate relaxation.


As we walked the resort, we were particularly struck by the shaded walkways adorned with bamboo. This deliberate design choice not only provided respite from the hot Mexican sun but also established an atmosphere of seclusion, privacy, and quietude. This thoughtful attention to detail was also evident in the resort's amenities, such as the supply of umbrellas at every exit. This practical touch allows guests to roam the grounds comfortably, regardless of weather conditions.


We found that Secrets Moxche's atmosphere truly centers around understated luxury. The resort masterfully achieves this by minimizing visual clutter while simultaneously accentuating high ceilings and open spaces. This harmonious design approach amplifies the property's natural beauty, allowing it to take center stage. Plus, with pools and dining dotted throughout the property, Secrets Moxche makes it easy to find a quiet spot to relax and enjoy the view.



Accommodations



With 485 luxury suites, each meticulously decorated in contemporary style, complemented by earthy tones, wood, and natural fabrics, Secrets Moxche caters to the discerning traveler. Whether you opt for a private plunge pool or a balcony tub with a breathtaking ocean view, we found every room category provided ample space for relaxation and leisure.


Rooms also have a bedside tablet that acts as your digital concierge, providing relevant information about daily activities, restaurant menus, and even the television guide. It also enables guests to order room service effortlessly. Speaking of room service, the resort ensures privacy with the exclusive "Secrets Box" - a dedicated space where room service is delivered without entering your suite.


Enhance your stay by booking a suite in the 'Preferred Club' category. The Preferred Club offers an array of benefits, such as exclusive access to the Preferred Club Lounge, which features a rooftop infinity pool, bar, and restaurant. Furthermore, the Preferred Club benefits also include personalized check-in and check-out, suites situated in premium locations, upgraded bath amenities and minibar, and a dedicated floor concierge service. These extra perks definitely enhance the overall resort experience, and we highly recommend it for those seeking a touch more indulgence during their stay.


Service


During our tour of Secrets Moxche, we were fortunate to have Violeta as our guide. Her attentiveness, knowledge, and willingness to go above and beyond to showcase every aspect of the resort and answer our inquiries truly enhanced our experience. Her approach to service mirrored the high standards we've come to associate with the Secrets Resorts.


We've stayed at and toured several Secrets properties, and one distinguishing hallmark is their dedication to delivering exceptional service. This unwavering commitment to guest satisfaction was undoubtedly embodied at Secrets Moxché. Regardless of their role, every staff member we encountered gave off an air of approachability and friendliness that significantly contributed to Secrets Moxché's inviting atmosphere. Their dedication to providing unparalleled service with a warm and welcoming demeanor was evident from the moment of arrival through to our departure.

Amenities & Experiences


Stepping into Secrets Moxche means immersing oneself in the epitome of luxury and endless leisure. Boasting an on-site speakeasy, a two-story sports bar fitted with a golf simulator, a high-tech theater, and plenty of pools, you'll never have to leave the resort.


We were blown away by the spa, which offers massages, facials, steam rooms, and a hydrotherapy circuit fit for a wellness haven. The presence of 16 regular spa rooms, double treatment rooms, and a bridal suite contributes to the holistic beauty experience. We loved that the wellness center can host spa parties for up to 20 people within its private cabana setting. The wellness sanctuary is the perfect place for a relaxing day with your girls, featuring custom treatments, a private juice bar, and a learning inspiration bar.


The pool area is an exquisite maze of eight pools and three man-made cenotes, each nestled within cozy nooks for guests to explore at their own pace. Each pool has its own energy - some embodying a beachy aura, others exuding a modern vibe, and a few designed for parties with swim-up bars, live music, and games. Our favorite pool was the gorgeous lagoon. With a maximum depth of five feet, it serves as the perfect spot for a leisurely swim or a place to relax, cocktail in hand. And you'll never have to worry about seaweed at this beach!


Music lovers will find joy in the relaxing acoustic bands that play at some of the pools during the day. And when the sun sets, the open-air amphitheater takes up the entertainment, hosting live musical performances and shows.


For guests who desire experiences beyond lounging by the pool or enjoying a beach bar beer, Secrets Moxche brims with day and night activities. Venture out and use the ample sports equipment the resort provides. Embark on thrilling water activities such as kayaking, paddleboarding, or exploring the underwater world with snorkeling gear. Indulge in yoga sessions amidst lush nature, meditate under pristine skies, or participate in games orchestrated throughout the day, all offering a blend of communal fun and personal enrichment.




Food & Drink


Offering a diverse gastronomic landscape, Secrets Moxche presents 11 unique dining venues. These include seven à la carte restaurants—with two stationed gracefully along the beachfront—for a more personal dining experience. In addition, there is a bountiful buffet, a grill, and a cozy café for more casual fare. Catering to night owls or late-night snackers, the resort also offers 24-hour dining options. This ensures plenty of culinary choices around the clock to satisfy your every craving.

Options included pizza, fish, hot dogs, burgers, tacos, and chicken sandwiches, among other things.

Coco Cafe | Coffee, snacks and light bites

Dos Almas | Mexican

Suki | Japanese Sushi bar & Teppanyaki

No reservations are required for the main dining room. Reservations are required for Teppanyaki tables and can be made directly at the restaurant or by contacting your concierge. 

Market Cafe | International Buffet

The Market Café is the main buffet at Secrets Moxché, known for its seemingly endless options of international buffet food. It's open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We ate here during our visit, and the food was AMAZING! They even have a make-your-own ceviche bar!

Seasoul | Fresh Seafood

An open-air seafood restaurant located next to the main pool and beach, the bar here has rope swings right on the beach!

Allora | Italian

Ember | Open Fire Grill & Smoke House 

You can opt to dine indoors or outdoors.

Bamboo | Southeast Asian Cuisine 

It's in an excellent location, elevated right off the lagoon pool

Observatory | Rooftop Preferred Club restaurant

It's located in the pharmacy, and the password changes daily.

This is no average hotel sports bar. Think elevated man cave, with a golf simulator on the top floor, plenty of TVs to watch the game, and impeccably designed lounge areas.

Weddings


At Secrets Moxche, weddings are more than just ceremonies - they are carefully crafted experiences. As of our visit in September 2023, the resort's policy was to only schedule one wedding per day. This ensures that every detail is meticulously attended to without distraction. The resort staff's wholehearted commitment and focused attention are reflected in the elevated service given to the couple and their guests.


The property offers six enchanting wedding locations. Opt for the unrivaled panoramic views from the rooftop sky gazebo, or choose an expansive suite terrace for an intimate celebration. Alternatively, the lush gardens, seven heated pools, and unique man-made cenotes offer picturesque backdrops for everything from the vows to the vibrant reception and, of course, the honeymoon!


With a total event space of 12,711 sqft, Secrets Moxche is an excellent choice for a destination wedding.


Final Thoughts


In conclusion, we were simply blown away by Secrets Moxche Playa del Carmen – it's hands-down one of the most gorgeous all-inclusive resorts we've ever visited. The brilliant combination of elegant design, top-notch service, and fabulous amenities guarantees that guests will have a vacation experience like no other, tailored to the tastes of an adults-only clientele.
